Capt. John Saves the Day

On June 16, 1966, the freighter Alva Cape carrying over 5,000,000 gallons of naphtha, and tanker Texaco Massachusetts collided due to pilot error. The resulting explosion is one the deadliest shipwrecks in New York Harbor ever. Most pilots in those waters would have steered as far away from there as possible, but not Captain john Cray who drove his tug boat into the flaming waters to save anyone he could from certain death.
